Ponta Beach Camp is situated virtually on the main beach and consists of large permanent ”East Africa Safari Style” Tents, constructed on wooden decks.
Ponta Beach Camps are essentially 3 separate camps and a small private campsite:
• Ponta Beach Camp – Beach Front Camp. En Suite and Non En Suite Safari Tents
• Ponta Beach Camp – Private Campsites.
• Ponta Beach Camp – Main Camp also know as Tandje Beach Resort.
Beach Front Camp : (En-Suite Beachfront).
These units are situated just 10 meters back from the main beach at Ponta do Ouro.
Each unit has a large glass sliding door which opens out onto a wooden deck overlooking the sea.
In most units this amazing view is also possible from your bed.
The deck has a small table with 2 attached benches on either side.
The units are spacious, well ventilated, and are designed so that they remain cool and airy despite the tropical Mozambican heat.
They are equipped with a Queen Bed, and 2 pillows.
By prior arrangement, and subject to availability, this can be substituted by 2 single beds.
All beds are fitted with mattress and pillow protectors. They all have a fitted Bottom Sheet, Top Sheet, and light Duvet.
Bed throws are also folded on the bottom of each bed.
The en-suite bathroom consists of a private, semi open air shower (hot and cold water) with washbasin, and toilet.
No toiletries or towels are supplied.
Take your own towel, soap, shampoo, etc.
Each unit is equipped with a fan, mosquito net, a small shelf cupboard, bedside table, bedside lamp, and plug point (3 pin SA plug).
There is also a room ceiling light and outside deck light.
Beach Front Camp – En-suite Family Beachfront Unit (only 1 – pre-booking is essential).
This Family 4 Sleeper Unit is essentially two units joined together to make two bedrooms.
A large deck runs the full width across the front, and each room can be accessed separately, through its own sliding door.
There is a large table with 2 attached benches , suitable for 4 people on the deck.
Both rooms can access the very large en-suite bathroom, which can be locked from the inside to ensure privacy.
Bathroom is similarly equipped as the 2 Sleeper Units.
The main bedroom has a Double Bed, and the second bedroom has 2 single beds.
Each room is equipped with a fan, mosquito net, a small shelf cupboard, bedside table, bedside lamp, and plug point (3 pin SA plug).
There is also a room ceiling light and outside deck light.
There are ample towel and clothes rails, and a small cupboard.
A nice feature is that there is a section in front of the room that has natural dune vegetation, affording the unit a degree of wind protection,
shade and privacy.
Beach Front Camp – Standard NON EN SUITE Beachfront Units.
These units are situated behind the en-suite units, on a raised grass verge and the unit construction itself is very similar to the en-suite units.
Some of them have a limited sea view between the en-suite units.
Each unit has a large glass sliding door, which opens out onto a grassy verge which is covered with shade cloth.
The units are spacious, well ventilated, and laid out in a manner that ensures they remain cool and airy despite the tropical Mozambican heat.
They are all situated under a giant shade cloth Gazebo to protect from the sun.
They all have 2 Single Bed configuration, with a single pillow for each single bed.
All beds are fitted with mattress and pillow protectors.
They all have a fitted Bottom Sheet, Top Sheet, and light Duvet. Bed throws are also folded on the bottom of each bed.
Each unit is equipped with a fan, mosquito nets, a small bedside table, bedside lamp, and plug point (2 pin flat plug).
There is also a room ceiling light,. Each unit has a set of shelves for storing clothes.
Plug points have limited capacity, are for charging cell phones and hair dryers only.
Outside the unit is a camp table, with 2 camp chairs.
These units are not en-suite and a communal ablution facility is situated right next to them, behind the dining area.
The rooms are serviced daily. Please notify reception what time you would like this done.
Plug Adapters – all the en-suite Beach Front and Non beach front units have 3 pin SA type plugs.
If you require 2 pin flat, or 2 pin Round plugs, please bring a suitable adaptor.
Plug points have limited capacity; are for charging cell phones and hair dryers only.
Fridges and portable fridges are not allowed in the rooms.
Plug points can be hired in the main dining area should you wish to plug in your own fridge / freezer.
During the Winter months – an extra blanket or duvet may be required.
Please take your own, or request another duvet from reception.
What to Bring:
Towels – both Beach and Bathroom (no towels whatsoever are provided) toiletries, mosquito repellent, suntan lotion, torch / LED lamp
(as in SA, power outages happen). Beach Umbrellas, Beach Chairs, Cooler Boxes and Hats
(Gazebos can be hired from the locals on the beach).
Standard Beachfront Units – Communal Ablution facilities.
The ablution complex consists of separate ladies and men’s facilities.
Each facility has 2 toilets, and 2 showers – all individual cubicles. All showers have hot and cold running water.
There are also 2 basins on the men’s side, with a urinal, and 2 basins on the ladies side. Each basin has a mirror and shelf.
Beach Front Camp – Self Catering Kitchen / Braai Boma & Dining area:
The self catering facilities consist of a large Boma housing the dining area and kitchen.
It is equipped with a double gas hotplate, and electric kettle. Fridges (200 liter Fridge / Freezer combinations) are available for hire.
Plug points for private portable camp fridges are available for hire in the dining area.
What’s Provided:
Cooking utensils (Frying Pan, Pots, Pans,) Braai, Braai Grids, egg lifter, big spoons, plates, basins and bowls.
Personal crockery and cutlery are not provided.
What to Bring: Glasses, coffee mugs, knives, forks, etc, braai tongs, bottle opener, can opener, corkscrew.
Braai Facilities:
There is a large braai area, with communal braai, adjoining the dining area.
This is for the sole use of the Beach Front Camp residents, and supplied free of charge.
If you intend braai-ing bring your own charcoal and firelighters. Both wood (soft – not good braai wood) and charcoal are available to buy at
Ponta, along the road or in the market.
Dish washing Facilities:
There is a large sink for washing dishes and crockery.
Our house keeping staff will willingly wash up your dishes, obviously at your own risk.
We cannot accept responsibility for any losses or breakages if clients avail themselves of this service.
Dish wash liquid is provided.
NB: Please do not use commercial dish wash liquids, or pour any other form of chemicals down any basin or drain.
Due to the proximity to the beach, and waste disposal systems, only organic liquids are allowed.
Barraca de Ponta - In house Restaurant and Pub:
For those that don’t want the hassle of cooking, Barraca de Ponta, our popular Mozambique Restaurant, is situated in the Main Camp,
just 30 meters away. It offers very affordable Breakfast, and Full Board meal options.
Pre paid discounted meal voucher “Specials” are usually available.
The flexibility of the meal voucher system allows you the best of both worlds – eat out somewhere else if you want to,
or have you own braai one of the nights.
