LOCATION

Quilálea Island resort in a marine sanctuary with Sencar Island. Quilálea is 12 kms from the mainland town of Quissanga and 55kms north of Pemba City by sea and 120 kms by road. The island is 34 hectares in area and lies alongside a deep 70 metre channel with direct access to the Indian Ocean. The island forms part of the Quirimbas Archipelago which stretches from Pemba to the Rovuma river, the natural frontier with Tanzania.

Accommodation

9 rock villas with a super King size double beds, convertible into twin beds enclosed in a spacious mosquito net. Each villa is constructed with indigenous materials and handcrafted timber, has double ceiling fans, a brass shower, hot water, twin basins and separate toilet and bidet. A wooden safe box is provided, a mini-bar and hair drier. A corner settee is crafted in the Ibo style with a local marble coffee table. Each villa opens onto a private veranda with its´ own panoramic view.

FACILITIES

The dining area and lounge are situated to benefit from sunrise and sunset and overlook the sea.
Board games are available.
Traditional loungers and day beds are placed at each villa. The marine pavilion and bar with satellite TV overlook a plunge pool and faces west over the channel. The pavilion is a dive and sport fishing centre with a full range of Mares equipment and Shimano fishing tackle. Menus are based on fresh fish and sea food prepared in the traditional Mozambican style complemented with Portuguese wines. Alfresco lunches and dinners can be served on pristine beaches around the island.

ACTIVITIES

Snorkeling and scuba diving, canoeing and dhow sailing along the mangrove channels, with bird and whale watching in season.
For an additional charge deep sea sport fishing and diving instruction is available. All equipment is provided. Day visits to historic Ibo Island and cultural tours can be arranged. Unusually the island offers diving from the beach in water temperatures ranging between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius.

Flights
Daily flights from Maputo to Pemba and 3 flights a week to and from Dar es Salaam on LAM. Transfers from Pemba can be a 2 hour road trip by air conditioned 4x4 or 15 minute air charter to neighbouring Quirimba island; both followed by a 20 minute boat transfer.

Transfer to Quilalea is a + - 20 minute helicopter flight from Pemba airport straight on to the island. The helicopter takes 4 passengers with 20Kg soft luggage each.
OR if there are more than 4 passengers we use the
6-8 seater Air Charter that flies from Pemba airport to Quirimba (+ - 20 min) followed by a + - 20 minute boat transfer to the island.
