Ponta Do Ouro
- "Place of Gold" - You'll understand where the name comes
from as you watch the sun rise from the beach. Set near the border
of South Africa (Kwazulu - Natal province), You need a 4x4 vehicle
to drive the road from the border to Ponta Do Ouro. A border pick
up service is available.
It is possible
to drive from Ponta do Ouro to Maputo on a long and sometimes arduous
4x4 track and then take the ferry from Catembe across the bay to
Maputo. This road passes the Maputo Elephant Sanctuary where elephants
still roam and there are camping spots available.
The village of Ponta do Ouro has two main resort, there are also
numerous private holiday homes carefully restored to their original
condition and restaurants, bars, shops, a market, a petrol station
and a bank.
Ponta Do Ouro
is a scuba diver's haven - there are about six dive operations based
at the resorts, which offer a variety of courses and packages. Excursions
to go swimming with dolphins is an extremely popular activity in
Ponta do Ouro.
